Healthy Schools London

Although we encourage all children to eat the meals cooked by our wonderful cook and their amazing team, children may alternatively bring a healthy packed lunch, in a sealed container (clearly marked with their full name and class). Please note that children should not bring any nut products into school.

Remember, school lunches are free for all primary school pupils in London! Why not give them a try?

As part of the Healthy Schools initiative, the academy has rules around Packed Lunches. This is in line with the guidance issued by the Mayor of London and the DfE (2023) Guidance on School Food in England. We ask parents and carers to support us by ensuring that packed lunches:

  • Promote healthy habits
  • Maintain a safe environment for students with allergies
  • Are brought in a suitable, sealed container, clearly labelled with the student’s name

Drinks

As a water-only school (in line with Mayor of London’s Guidance), the only drinks permitted are water and plain milk. This includes in packed lunches and after school.

Food

Packed lunches should include:

  • A balanced selection of food including a sandwich or main item
  • Fruit and/or vegetables
  • A healthy snack
  • A sufficient amount of food for the age and stage of development of the child

Packed lunches must not include:

  • Crisps
  • Sweets & chocolates
  • Nut products (nuts, nutella, peanut butter, etc.)
  • Food which requires refrigeration and/or reheating to be safe to eat

Sharing Food

For the safety of all, children are not permitted to share food with others, even those who they know well.

After-School Snacks

Children may bring an after-school snack if they have a club. This should be a healthy item such as fruit. Sweets, crisps etc. will be stored and handed back to parents after club time. Please note that the office does not have capacity to deliver snacks to children at the end of the day, and so after-school snacks should be in your child’s packed lunch or bag from when they arrive at school.

Reasonable Adjustments

Very rarely, a child may have a disability which leads to them needing a specialist diet, in which case some reasonable adjustments can be made via a meeting with the SENCo & Class Teacher. There is no flexibility in the policy of No Nuts, which is in place for the safety of children with allergies.

As part of our Eco-Schools initiative, parents and carers are encouraged to consider reducing the amount of single-use plastic in their child’s lunches by utilising re-useable containers
